These drums all sound AMAZING and are ready for the right person to breathe new life into them again! As a whole, these drums were carefully collected over many years and were always kept indoors and played very little upon acquisition. These drums come from places like Antigua, Trinidad, Barbados, Mayreau, and the U.S.A.As a collection, the older drums show off their age nicely with beautiful hand painted scenes and/or patterns & rustic patinas; all the while sounding as though they were built & tuned by the finest of long forgotten fishermen, artists, musicians & oh by the way, skilled craftsmen with the most rudimentary tools known to man at the time...because they were! The older drums are like Picasso's you can bang on, they were built to last, & they were tuned & painted by artists who were great at what they did.The more recent drums compliment the older drums in the collection nicely with a little something that says "hey, bang on me & leave those other ones alone because they're old & valuable & handmade by artists who are all long dead and were never paid what they were worth."Beyond looking perhaps arguably nicer and newer, the more recently made instruments sound just as amazing as they would appear they should and were rarely played once acquired like all of the others. The amount of time spent making these drums isn't fathomable to most...especially when talking about the best made older examples.Just the time to let the paint dry alone is impressive on some of these drums, not to mention the number of hours pounded into each & every note...BY HAND in most cases!!!
And if you didn't know already, the history of these types of drums is both sad and remarkable.
In short, this type of drum was originally constructed by very, very poor & oppressed island dwelling slaves long ago and although today the steel pan drums are loved by almost all at first, years ago they had to be ever so slowly perfected and were often reluctantly accepted as a true instrument & are today considered amongst the last kind of modern instruments to be developed randomly from scratch by accident out of necessity.Thank you for your interest and God bless! Also it is important to note, a great portion of the proceeds of this sale will go directly to a multitude of charitable organizations benefiting the less fortunate.Unfortunately, my charitable institutes of choice aren't amongst the options given by eBay.
Nevertheless, Happy Bidding!!!Please note, the brown bongo drum pictured used to prop up the metal yard stick is not included in this sale.
