For sale a custom modified, one of a kind, Hind Double Alto C ocarina made from Honduran Rosewood and layered with Padauk. This is a gorgeous ocarina and has over a two octave range.I really, really wish I didn't have to sell this but a surprise family emergency has arisen and I have a few ocarinas I can spare to help out, this one included.Originally, this ocarina was made for Cris Gale and then sold to me. I wasn't perfectly happy with it and so it has traded a few hands but eventually made it's way back to me because it has such a lovely tone. I simply dreaded the very sensitive high D on the first chamber and that condensation would build up in the windway (common problems for these ocarinas). The Double Altos are not being made anymore as Mr. Hind has made a redesign and is producing tenor doubles instead with recorder style voicings. This ocarina features the same voicings as he sells on his single ocarinas. What I have done is sealed off the low A subhole which helped to bolster the High D as the low A subhole was too quiet and muddy to be of any practical use. I sanded down the mouthpiece to give it a taper like the new tenor doubles have. It is much easier to switch chambers on now and certainly easier than clay ocarinas with sticky glazes. Secondly, I balanced the volume of the second chamber so it is more even as before it suddenly ramped up and became much louder and more shrill than the rest of the instrument's range. Lastly, I opened up the voicing making it larger and sanded down the labium to produce a less constricted airflow. Condensation does not build up as quickly and the overall volume has increased making this a performance capable ocarina. The low C and B are quite clear and strong sounding which You won't find on any of the other Alto doubles from Mr. Hind which had very low breath demands. The High D is still a bit sensitive but can be tongued like the rest of the notes. It does benefit from the acute bend (an ocarina playing technique whereby you tilt your head down bring the ocarina lower towards your chest - yes it sounds crazy but watch videos it works to strengthen top notes).Mr. Hind is no longer making these ocarinas but the retail price for this ocarina was $635 and a new tenor double would run you the same for this wood combination. I want to get as much as I can for it and I spent a lot of hours carefully improving this unique and gorgeous instrument. That said, it is used and I attained it for less than the original price so I am asking for it with a discount of what it's originally worth instead of charging more for all my work.I will record a sound sample and can provide the link to soundcloud for anyone interested.
