This is a vintage rackmount Orban Optimod 8182A multiband mastering compressor that is currently configured as a stereo mastering compressor. It is complete with the key, a copy of the manual, a set of Neutrik XLR pigtails, and IEC power cable. These are absolutely legendary compressors and they originally sold new for $6200! While they shine as a program multiband compressor (especially on a live recording), they are also incredible on drums and vocals, as they give it that broadcast fullness and sheen. Of course they can be used anywhere in the track wherever you want to make something gigantic. We used it on drums, vocals, and as a stunt compressor. We also really liked it for massive sounding voice-over work, this and an SM7 w/ a nice FET pre is just polished gold. We are in the middle of decluttering our studio and our racks are the most cluttered part of it so we are parting with anything not essential to operation. This unit is in functional condition, complete, and clean. The unit can be internally configured either for broadcast composite audio or for normal L-R mastering. It is currently configured for normal left and right stereo usage. All of the cards are present and the unit is in original condition (so pots may need to be sprayed at some point, or maintenance may need to be performed in the future, as this is vintage audio). I only used on individual tracks/busses, so it may need to be calibrated for more meticulous mastering or broadcast use. All I know is that I put signal through, turned knobs, and good things happened. Of note, this is vintage broadcast, so you'll need to read the included manual one or three times (it's also in thick Orban-ese) and it is quite heavy. Overall, it's very clean, with only the exceptions being a weird brown tape chemical reaction on the front (no idea what it is), the covers being taken off the output attenuators (for easy access), and two pieces of tape marking left minus right and left plus right. It's lived in our smoke-free studio for some years and before that it lived in a boutique mastering studio for most of its life, so I believe this unit has limited mileage vs. one pulled from a broadcast environment, which for me, has significant value. Overall, this is an incredible multi-band limiter that was made with the highest quality components (did I mention that it was originally $6200?) that will add a unique polish to any track. It is in clean condition and does not have the typical broadcast mileage and it includes the manual, key to the door, quality XLR pigtails, and a copy of the manual. These Orbans are secret weapons and typically sell for a tidy sum when they are available. Don't miss out on an opportunity to get this legendary multi-band compressor at a very solid price!
