NOT YOUR GRANDPA'S DULCIMER! I've got something very rare for you this time -- something that isn't going to come around again for a while. All my instruments are made with the highest quality woods I can find, and I use modern building techniques to achieve a sound that pushes the dulcimer to another level. I hate wimpy dulcimers, and mine will stand out in a jam session without a problem. Lots of volume, a sweet and clear tone that rings, incredible playability, you simply aren't going to find a better instrument at any price. This one is truly special. The body is made entirely of apple wood. Hard to find, harder to find in pieces suitable for an instrument, we've got a one of a kind instrument that sounds fabulous. Because apple trees are usually razed once they have finished producing fruit, they rarely have time to get big enough for suitable lumber. But, the lumber is wonderful, like cherry on steroids. The earliest clocks mass produced in America had gears of apple wood, because it is so dense, and the hardness of the wood creates a beautiful, bell-like tone, very similar to maple, that just rings and rings. I wish I had a barn full of it, but because it is so hard to locate, I only have a few boards, and once they are gone that's it. As part of the apple motif, I'm using a hummingbird and apple blossoms. I am an independent luthier in Western North Carolina. None of my dulcimers are available from any retail outlet, only directly from my shop in historic Rutherfordton, the site of a large gold rush in the 1830s. There isn't much gold left, although we did have the first US Mint outside of Philadelphia, but there are still lots of wonderful trees in the forests here that offer a woodworker a trove of possibilities. Sound is what I'm after, and it's the reason I almost never have any dulcimers in stock. Here are the specs: 50 year old Apple wood top, back, and sides, all book matchedWalnut scroll headstockWalnut tailstock made to accommodate ball end strings (and double as an arm rest for finger style players)Ebony fingerboard (yep....the real stuff) with pearl position markersGrover open gear tuners with ebony buttons Nitrocellulose high gloss finishInternal lateral bracingHigh quality gig bag with backpack straps and accessory pocket 26 3/4" scale length (my most popular) 2 1/4" Body depthPleas email for more info or additional pictures. I have 100% feedback for a reason!!! Just read the comments, and you'll discover why my dulcimers are the REAL DEAL. I'd like to add you to my list of satisfied customers
