Up for auction is a very nice vintage H. Distin  C, Bb, A silver plated cornet.  Made  during the Distin New York period. Serial number #365 on the second valve casing, and #678 on the bell.  Valves are original. Do not appear to have been re-plated.  Made in the late 19th century(1880). About 137 years old!!  This is a high pitch horn but I was able to play in modern pitch using the Bb slide, both tuning bits, a period mouthpiece and by adjusting the valve slides. The valves are worn some, as can be expected on this old a horn but it still played and worked reasonably well. The case is the original. The horn comes with: two lead pipes, “C” slide/lead pipe, two tuning bits, lyre, screw driver, and small metal grease container.   The horn has nice engraving on the bell and appears to have very few dents, dings ,or repairs.  I do believe the first valve slide is a replacement however. The ferrules are a little different, the pull knobs a slightly different style, and the tubes appear to be copper not brass. Nice repair job and doesn’t affect the horn playing or cosmetic wise.  Please see the pics.   The bell appears to have had no work done on it. I polished it up a little for the pics but more polishing is needed to really have it shine. Plating on the horn looks good. Just needs to be polished. All valve caps and slides move freely. Check out the split water key. Later models made this one piece. Well taken care of horn.  Horn comes with all that is pictured. Leather wrap on the case and the handle itself is long gone. The case is in good shape just missing the leather wrapping. There is no mouthpiece with the horn, but I may have an old Distin model lying around somewhere and if it surfaces I will include it with the horn. No guarantees however. Please see the picture.
