Age analysis: coming out of the cival war drums began to have tension rods which tighten the head. Before WW2 in the 10-20's the tension rods began being attached to the drum's shell, in addition a standardized drum key size was made. This drum falls between the release of rope tension drums from the cival war era and still has the larger drum key tension rods (NOT the same drum key size today) non-attached to the drum shell. estimated time period ~ 1840-1912Drum material: unknown , Drum shell is not magnetic. some type of metal Size: Drum head size is 16 inches , depth of the shell is 6 inches. Unusual : drum has wood reinforcement hoops on the inside of the shell, with it being metal shell. Smoked hoops/rims : Before drums came in different colors, wraps, and stains percussionists used to smoke the wood over a candle glazing and darkening the finish creating a different/unique color distoration on the wood. This was very common in drumsticks, some drum hoops/rims have followed this process as well. Both heads need to be replaced. I am selling my WW1 era and before drum collection , I combine shipping for US buyers. Any questions send me an email. If you would like additional pictures to better make a decision on condition, materials, anything email me. This drum is part of the Percussion Archive database.
