Guild D 55 Vintage Spruce and Indian Rosewood Guild's series of dreadnoughts have shared the stage with legendary artists like Johnny Cash to a newer generations like Gillian Welch and Ryan Adams. Guild introduced its flagship dreadnought, the D-55, in 1968. It was first introduced as a special order item only, but the response was so strong that within a few years it was added to the line as a regular production model. Since then, it has become synonymous with Guild's namesake. The Guild D55 is contructed of all solid wood. The top is built with a Spruce and the back and sides feature Indian Rosewood. The D-55 has lots of presence and volume, while still maintaining balance and response. Not too punchy and but not too mellow - the D-55 is perfect for those looking for a tried and true dreadnought with vintage style. This guitar was purchased new by David Wilcox in 1978. David saved money from his job wokring at the Mentor Mall in Ohio in order to purchase this guitar. His first guitar was a mahogany Guild D-25 which he still owns. For his second guitar he wanted a rosewood model. He called around and found that Berry's music had twon D-55s in stock. He played both and chosed this one. This became his primary guitar and it appears on the Cover of his acclaimed 1989 release, How Did You Find Me Here. The guitar was "photocopied" in order to capture the image. David installed the brass end pins and made the brass truss rod cover on the head plate using a file and hacksaw in his garage. He also replace the stock tuners with brass Sperzel tuners. David owned this guitar from 1978 to 2004 when it was sold prior to an adventure wherin he and his family chose to travel and live in an Airstream trailer for a few years. This guitar has has some restoration work done on it by Glaser Instruments. A new Ebony bridge was made to match the original. A re fret with OE, jumbo frets and a new bone nut and saddle. On October 2nd of 2015 David had a chance to reunite with this guitar after nearly a decade. He relayed several stories and expressed his liking of the restoration and new found volume it exhibited. This is an amazing guitar with loads of experience, but there are still plenty of songs to be written on it. Dont miss the chance to add this piece to your collection!! This guitar comes equipped with a K&K Pure Mini pickup. The K and K Pure Mini is a passive system for steel string guitar, with three pickup heads and an endpin jack. The Pure Mini is a transducer system only. It does not include a battery or on-board electronics. Don't be fooled by the sound of some competitors' thin sounding passive systems--the Pure Systems are definitely different. They sound full and rich and have sufficient output to drive most amps and PA systems directly! The original Sunrise pickup and original bridge are in the case as well as a Copy of David Wilcox's record How Did You Find Me Here. This instrument is in good condition and has some dents and scratches as expected from a vintage instrument. Additionally, there is some chipped areas around the binding as well as the gold plating has worn off the tuners. There has also been a center seam crack and one on top of the lower bout that have been professionally repaired. We have attempted to capture most of the wear in the detailed photos below. It has moderate fretwear and includes a hardshell case. Includes Martin Hardshell Case.Features :
