Full Size (4/4) Violin Bow by Hoyer.Stamped ACHM around two crossed bows.Length: 738 mmWeight: 59.8 gmThis lovely old bow has been cleaned and polished, it has new sterling silver lapping and leather grip. The tenon is clean and the frog and screw fit and work well. The frog has mother of pearl parisienne eyes to the side with a mother of pearl slide, the rest of the fittings are nickel silver. It has been re-haired with unbleached stallion hair. The bow has a round stick which is mid brown in colour with a good even grain and is ready to play. On the string this bow has a quality, solid feel and has some life and strength to it inspiring confidence while playing. It produces a very good even tone on my violin fitted with Evah Pirazzi strings.Research on the stamp mark shown in pictures 2 and 3 shows:-"Carl Adolf Hoyer was born in 1840 and learned bow making from his father Christian Friedrich Hoyer. In 1865 he established his own workshop, which became the largest Markneukirchen bow factory by the early 20th century, employing many workers and making bows of a wide range of quality. The typical trademark ('ACHM' between two crossed bows) is known on bows made after 1912." C A Hoyer died in 1914. The factory, managed by his son Carl Willy Hoyer, continued to operate until 1945."In response to a number of questions my bows are NOT imported from China to be sold on. All are described "old/vintage and restored" because they are, they all require some work to bring them back to playable condition. All my bows are re-haired before listing with new unbleached hair. I always describe the work I have undertaken, whatever it is, on each of my bows.
