1938 Martin "Skyline" UL tenor sax w/ pro restoration/original case
Estimated price for orientation: 1 699 $
Category: Saxophones
Class:
Description Brand: Martin Key Finish: Nickel plated Type: Tenor Skill Level: Professional Body Finish: Unlacquered (UL) Country/Region of Manufacture: United States Body Material: Brass Model: Committee I
I have a beautiful, fully restored Martin Committee I tenor sax in hand polished bare brass finish available.Prior to the overhaul, most of the original lacquer had already fallen off, so very little buffing had to be done! The iconic "Skyline" engravings are all in great shape. There are still traces of the original lacquer in the upper stack, but the rest of the sax body is bare brass and slowly developing a vintage patina. My Tech (with over 50 years experience) replaced a few springs, all the corks, felts, and used Ferree's booster pads during the overhaul. There are no signs of previous repairs, no dents and no noticeable scratches. I only see a couple of minor dings here and there and some light rub marks above the thumb hook. This sax is mechanically excellent and now plays better than a new horn. This sax has the classic dark tone these 1930's Martins are noted for along with VERY GOOD INTONATION. I like this series of Martin tenor saxophones better than the later (more hyped) "The Martin" models as the pitch seems easier to control, IMHO.Somewhat rare, matching serial number 1257xx on body and neck , circa 1938, the sax comes in the original Martin case which is in presentable condition (very clean inside without odors), but could use extra re-inforcement structurally, for daily use.Buy with confidence: I pack very carefully and have shipped many saxophones all over the world without a single problem.
