Description Brand: GEORGE LA FOLEY Right-/ Left-Handed: Right-Handed Body Type: Fretless String Configuration: 6 String Size: Full Size Soundboard Style: Flat Top Body Material: Mahogany Model: 509 Country/Region of Manufacture: United Kingdom EAN: Does not apply
Foley hand built all his instruments himself and London maker George Abbott considered them the finest instruments he had heard. There is, as usual, more on the net about him and all good. Here's a clue : http://www.harpguitars.net/knutsen/foley.htm
It is very lightly built out of solid well figured very close grained mahogany. A beautiful piece of wood, beautifully constructed. Being a Hawaiian guitar; there are no frets on this model are only fret markers - and the nut and saddle are raised. The tuners are the original ornate brass models and work perfectly. Slotted headstock with beautiful flared top. A small bodied parlour guitar measuring 12" across the lower bout, 91/2" upper bout, body length of 18" and a 25" scale length.La Foley's instruments are all of superb build quality and this guitar is solid and was refurbished in 1973 by L A Harfling, the luthier from Bushey, Hertfordshire. . His name is marked inside the body. The french polishing has a few dings and scratches and I've tried to show these in the photos. The overall finish on this gorgeous piece of wood is excellent and the photos don't do it justice. The guitar appears solid and has no obvious cracks or defects. A neatly built and understated instrument with attractive decoration to the sound hole and binding. It is a rare guitar nowadays, being built in the 1920's and still in solid, original condition.Feel free to come and view the guitar. I am in Cheshire and the photos do not do it justice.Collection is preferred but I will ship worldwide, but only with full insurance. Enquire for costs of shipping.Any questions, contact me.
