1989 Santa Cruz Custom D Dreadnought German and Indian Rosewood Santa Cruz Custom D The Dreadnought: the design that introduced boutique lutherie. In the early 1970's, it was the rare player who would consider any guitar smaller than a dreadnought. Stellar players were handicapped by the traditional D's predominate bass and thin trebles. The strength of the typical dreadnought guitar is in its power and volume, which are achieved by the guitar's large body size. The increased air space also gives the instrument a predisposition to the bass range, an asset to some playing styles and a detriment to others. This special Santa Cruz Custom D (dreadnought) started as a standard D, but became something much more unique. The bracing is scalloped and forward shifted. This bracing makes the low end more powerful, more like the early guitars we love. The top is German Spruce, which offers great volume and headroom. It has a herringbone top purfle to this mahogany dreadnought, which we feel tends to loosen the top up just a bit, adding another level of responsiveness. Combine all that with Indian Rosewood and you have a guitar that is clear, distinct, powerful, and thumpy... all while maintaining the balance that we love about Santa Cruz guitars. The finishing touch on this guitar is the Abalone body binding and a Mother of pearl SCGC marker at the 12th fret. This Santa Cruz Custom D Dreadnought German Spruce and Indian Rosewood Pre-Owned 1989 is in Excellent + Condition with only 1 light ding on the top of the guitar as well as a few surface scratches on the top and back.
