Gorgeous 2004 PRS McCarty for sale. This guitar was designed as a collaboration between Paul Reed Smith and Ted McCarty, the president of Gibson during their “Golden Age,” and is believed by many to be a distillation of everything McCarty wished he could’ve done at Gibson, the “Les Paul that never was” in a sense. The guitar is beautiful, with a mahogany back and neck, a flamed maple cap, and a rosewood fingerboard. It has the “wide fat” neck profile (faster and sleeker than a typical Gibson, but still with some heft), the craftsmanship is top notch, and the guitar is substantive (~7.7 lbs), but not as heavy as a Les Paul. I have made some key upgrades/modification to the guitar that make it a true pro-level instrument. The pickups have been replaced with a pair of Bare Knuckle, hand-wound humbuckers: a Mule in the neck (a recreation of the legendary Gibson ’59 PAF), and a VHII in the bridge (a “hot PAF” with extra output to merge vintage and modern tones). These are a huge improvement over the stock pickups, and the guitar can sing, growl, or roar, perfect for blues, jazz, classic rock, hard rock, and even metal. As with all McCarty’s it has a push-pull coil tap. The original pickups will also be included along with the guitar (see pictures; I will put them in the corresponding Bare Knuckle boxes). Second, I sent the guitar to the PRS factory in Maryland and had it professionally refinished in the beautiful “Faded McCarty Burst” color, which is traditionally only available on guitars in the $5,000 and up range (and even then mostly on single-cuts, it’s very rare to see a double-cut McCarty in this finish). This color is reminiscent of the vintage Les Paul bursts, a subtle yellow-orange honey burst that really lets the flame of the cap show through. I have also installed locking tuners (while retaining the vintage look), and the guitar will ship in its original hard-shell case. In terms of conditions, it is are two one small dings at the bottom of the back of the guitar (see pics), and a few minor scuffs in the back that you can only see in the light, at the right angle (none go through the finish). The bridge also has a slight patina with age, and the screws are a little worn, but it still works perfectly well. The original pickups do show some oxidation/rust (see pics), but the installed nickel-covered humbuckers look brand new. The guitar looks and sounds amazing, and is the perfect hybrid between Les Paul look and tone and PRS craftsmanship and playability. With all the upgrades, over $3,000 has been invested in this guitar, but you can get it at a greatly reduced cost. Free shipping to the lower 48 states, no international buyers please. I’m happy to answer any questions, or send more pictures, and thanks for looking!PLEASE NOTE: the guitar is currently on loan to my sister, but I will be getting it from her next week, so it won't be shipped until the weekend of April 8th. I wanted to offer it early, however, in case you're not in a hurry!
