This is a beautiful set of 1961 silver and ivory R G Hardie bagpipes. I bought them from Bill Baird. Bill Baird is the composer of the tune "March of the Champion Supreme". He is a good friend of mine and an open piper who has competed for many years in the Michigan and Ontario circuit. These pipes belonged to his father Jack Baird, who was pipe major of a band in Bay City, Michigan, from the 60s to the late 80s.  Jack bought them new in 1961.  When I bought them, I sent them to David Marshall in Canada to be refurbished. I believe he sent them to Dunbar Bagpipes who did the work. The only thing done was to have the wood given a new finish. They are in like new condition.  They have never had any repairs and each piece is original and in flawless condition.   The silver is a classic thistle design with tiny circles going up the front and backside separating the thistle patterns on both sides of the tuning slides, see pictures.  Gorgeous silver and all hallmarks are easy to read.  The thistle pattern really jumps out and is quite impressive. The ivory is in beautiful condition without any nicks or chips and show their age appropriate to 1961.  The bushings at the end of the drones are also Ivory.  Although I never played this set, I did set them up with a new Bannatyne medium bag and water trap. One of my piping students played them for the past two summers in his solo competitions in grade 3.  He always received remarks from the judges about the sound and look of the bagpipe. They do sound quite nice with EZee drone reeds, which is what I had in them. He is a little disappointed to not be able to play them this summer but I have too many sets and too many projects around the house that need funding.   The price for these pipes is reflective of this top-notch quality vintage bagpipe that needs no repairs or work and is ready to be played for many years to come at any level of piping. Everything is original including the chanter with the silver sole.  Please email me if you have any further questions. This could easily be the last bagpipe you would need to buy.  Thank you.
