For sale is this 1964 Vox AC-10/T amplifier. In excellent cosmetic condition and perfect working order, this hand-wired JMI amplifier offers all the classic vox tones made famous by it's bigger brother, the AC-30. This amp will give you everything from the classic clean chime of the early Beatles records, to the soaring overdriven leads of Queen's Brian May. But it will do so without blowing your head off, and in a much more manageable package.The Vox AC-10 is unique in that it is the only vox amp that continued to utilize the EF-86 tube into the mid-1960s. This tube is the main source of the classic Vox overdrive  from the earliest amplifiers made by the JMI company. Because it was prone to microphonics, it was phased out of the other amps. This tube continued to power the vibrato channel on the AC-10, and is definitely the highlight of this particular amplifier. The normal channel also sounds very nice, but is a tad darker and cleaner than it's next-door neighbor. I believe it is possible to jumper both channels, which really pushes this amp into the stratosphere.There are not many demos of the AC-10 online, but it is really capable of extremely nice overdriven tones at manageable volumes. In my opinion, the bridge pick up on either a single coil or humbucking guitar really causes this amp to shine.   I can send you some links to a few videos of this and if you'd like to hear it. Cosmetically, the amp is in very good vintage condition. There are a few minor flaws to the rough black tolex, but all the plastic corners are surprisingly intact. The metal vents and the handle also appear to be original, as does the Vox logo, the grill cloth, and the rest of the essential components of the cabinet. As can be seen in the pictures, the upper back panel at one time had a small cut out, which was probably intended for an aftermarket top boost unit. I have contacted some Vox text who have a shirred me that it is possible to top boost an AC-10, which would make for a spectacular amplifier!Internally, the amp sports it's original Parmeko transformers, all of which seem to date to 1964, although I'm not an expert on how to read these codes. There may be a component on here that dates to 1965, so please keep in mind that it may have left the factory as late as then. The amp does appear to have been serviced in the course of its lifetime, as can be seen from the newer capacitors. I am not an expert on the internals of the amplifier, so I've provided detailed pictures of everything. If you'd like more, please let me know and I will provide them. I'm not sure of the extent of the servicing, but the pictures should tell you the story. A small output jack has been wired to the speaker output on the chassis so that you can plug the amp into a cabinet if you so desire.  If you don't like this and would like to return to the original stock wiring, it is as simple as unsoldering the Jack and putting the speaker cables directly on the chassis by loosening and tightening a few screws that hold it in place. The only other thing to note is that the screws for the back panels are not original, as it looks like the original ones had stripped out. It also looks like a speaker mounting screw has been installed through the front of the amp to replace a faulty one. You can see the very back of the screw poking out very slightly through the grill cloth on the bottom near the center of the amp. It is really hardly noticeable unless you look up close. But it is worth noting to give an accurate description.The amp comes with two sets of speakers. I will include the original blue framed Elac speakers, one of which has been reconed. The other one could use a recone to operate optimally, but it sounds OK as is. Currently installed in the amp is a set of Celestion G10 gold speakers. These are the finest 10 inch speakers available, and are intended to capture the sound of the classic vox blues speakers found in early 1960s. The speaker sell for over $300 for the pair brand-new. Please keep that in mind. Original vox egg footswitch is also included.
