McCallum Folk PipesThe Folk Pipes have been designed by McCallum Bagpipes to play along with other instruments, allowing the piper to use a blowing and bag pressure technique as they would with the Highland pipes.
The low A note on the chanter is tuned to concert pitch A (440Hz) which means that the pipes will naturally play in the keys used by other musicians when playing traditional/folk music. There is a thread on the reed
seat of all chanters (except
C4) which alleviates the
problems of the reed coming
loose, especially on the plastic
chanter in dry conditions. This
locks the reed in place until
adjusted by the piper. it’s also a much more
accurate way of setting the
chanter reed pitch.
You turn the reed clockwise
to sink the reed and sharpen it,
and the anti-clockwise to raise
it and sharpen it. The standard pipe Chanter
(C1, C2) is played by pipe bands
worldwide, including many of the
top grade 1 bands. in addition,
it is also played by many top
soloists and has won almost
every top piping award.
