Before reading the description of this item, I urge you to first check out my Ebay Seller Feedback. As you will see, my feedback is not only 100% positive--it's over-the-top giddy, a number noting not only the instrument's quality but also my integrity and knowledge and objectivity. I never disappoint. (To find out why buyers again and again describe my sells as "best experience I've ever had on Ebay," skip the description and see the WHAT I DO section at the end of the listing.)*******************1986 (#53) all solid wood guitar built by revered maker, J.P. Barthell, with hardshell TKL case. Of all the things I'm selling, this one is my fave and the one I'd least likely let go of if I weren't out of work. This builder's small output, usually sold by such boutique stores as Dream Guitars, Savage Guitars and the Guitar Salon for $4500 and up, has guaranteed that his work not only retains, but will continue to accrue, value. (The last one that sold on Reverb went for $3200.)While this one has a lot of cosmetic issues, none of these problems compromise the instrument's structural integrity, acoustic output, playability or potential longevity. Its neck is straight, its intonation true, its frets show virtually no wear, it has low action, is without buzzing, is completely stable and ready to play, as is, out of the case. All solid wood: very fine German spruce top; drop-dead Koa body; ebony fretboard; maple binding; mahogany neck; bone nut and saddle; french polish (entire); deluxe tuners. (Will include two bone saddles--its original, higher one, which is compensated, and the lower one on it now, which isn't. In either case, intonation is superb. Sound has a LOT of presence--immense soul, edge and resonance; great balance across the spectrum. In a way that's very difficult to explain--but will be immediately understood by those who've had one like this: a hand magnet, possessed of great charm, very hard to put down. I'm not sure if that is in spite of its issues, or, in some weird way, because of them. (I think of it as the Don Quixote of guitars.) Considerable signs of wear but no fret wear (at some point refretted and not played much since). Although I've had a good bit of work done on it to undo some of the poor work done on it in the past, it still has a number of issues. Although I've tried to capture everything in the photos, I want to make sure they are clearly described as well. The two main things are the bridge--which is set fine, but sloppily--and the back, which is slightly separating from the butt. In the case of the bridge, it's secure, works fine, is completely stable, but was done in a way that shows a good bit of glue overage. In the case of the separation--easy fix, but would be fine if left: if you press on the back, you can feel a little give, but it's been that way for years and, if left, would not cause any particular problem in the overall function of the instrument. There is a surface runner along the neck on the treb side of the upper body; splinted and fixed ages ago, it's completely stable.Considerable signs of wear. Due to its age, you can feel where the braces are set on the lower end of the top, but that's completely normal for guitars of this vintage with thin-planed (and thus acoustically maximal) tops. Clearly, if you're picky about anything, this one isn't for you. If, on the other hand, you're fine with a guitar that looks like it's been through a few wars--and still fit enough to kick some major ass--this is a great opportunity to get a guitar that sounds way better than anything you can for anything close to what I'm asking for it. I recently sold a Burguet (Spanish, handmade, upper model) for more than I'm asking for this one and the Ebay feedback read, "...has the voice of an angle." This guitar is light years beyond that one, so, while I'm willing to consider reasonable offers, I really think my asking price is about right--IF you are the kind of player who's looking for sound over slick looks. Inquire about this and other stock, some listed, some not, all interesting, rare and priced to move: 706-372-4310.WHAT I DOFor over a decade, I have searched out guitars of every conceivable sort, always looking for the unique instrument, especially those that are, 1.) great deals; and/or 2.) possessed of real character. I take care to ensure that each guitar is set up and playable as is--new strings, action as described, NO ISSUES: If you get it from me, it's ready to play out of the box. My prices are always competitive, usually well below what a similar instrument comparably set up would sell for elsewhere. A few typical Ebay feedbacks (some from repeat buyers):Fantastic! As promised. Great c
