Hello, audiophiles, DYI builders, and Audio Engineers;You are looking at my ultimate system, designed and built by me. I am a speaker designing fool ! I was born with the infliction. Moving on, the bass drivers shown are 2242H, I will be swapping them for 2245's since I don't need hi power levels, and the 2245 is likely more appropriate for my system. I have been listening to these for several months, using the Heathkit 1640 amp you see lit up, Max power they have seen is 200W per side (100W) each driver. but typically less than 10W per side, the amps on each side of the 1640 are Heath 1800's but not hooked up so far. My criteria is: When that kick drum hits, the impulse must go through your body like you are jello, the same as if you were standing there 10 feet back in a live performance, same with a kettle drum. The leading edge must be steep enough to give you goose bumps. If a system can do that, everything else will be totally good. My system does this with the 1640 so I have not hooked up the 1800's, but of course I will some day, the 99dB/ watt efficiency of the 2242's and the BL of the motor delivers and is as good as it gets. I have 4 more 2242’s, New in Boxes, All these were made in the JBL facility in Northridge CA. The price listed is for each individual driver, I am looking to sell all 4, either the new ones or the ones in the system, which are in like new condition. I put $850 for the New in Box units and $750 for the ones in the system.
NOW .. If you want a system like what you see, or a shorter version which does not use the top bass bin, I can also provide. you can complete your build and experiment to your hearts desire and finally tune it to your taste. I have a facility to produce these bins and horns for way less blood sweat and tears than you could ever do yourself. The black horns you see are also my own modified tractrix design I build, and are driven by 2inch JBL compression drivers and also available with 1.5 inch throats for Altec 288/291 compression drivers. The center HF driver is a slot radiator of my own design based on a Fane 5022 ring radiator. That is an additional option you may like or if you are over 50 likely not need.
What I offer are the single or double bass bins, horns and complete VHF drivers, any combo you want
in any combination. You can buy bass bins and provide your own bass drivers and 2 inch compression drivers. If you choose a single bass bin, that will include the columns on each side of the mid range black horn. A top decorative wood cap plate spans the top so you can put a photo of your ex wife who divorced you after you cranked these monsters up and drove her into a motel. Give Dave a call
