XEROS Octave Mandolin by OakwoodThis is a very special luthier designed, hand-made octave mandolin. It is believed to be a one-off. It has a compact body (13 inch bout width, 15 inch long and 3 inch depth) and 21 inch scale length with a 1 7/16 inch nut width. The solid woods are Imbuia back and sides, cedar soundboard, with a birdseye maple neck and insert on back (see photos). The ebony fretboard has 26 frets with snowflake abalone markers. There is light wood (believed to be pear wood) binding and rope pattern purfling on the front and striped purfling on the back. The tailpiece has a sold wood cover. The cedar soundboard has very attractive triple curved slots on each side instead of F-holes. I have never seen this design before and it is both very attractive and works well in projecting the sound. The tone is clear and ringing with good intonation and separation. The action is low with no buzzing making it a delight to play. This beautiful instrument is in excellent condition and is believed to be unique. It comes with good quality hard case supplied by Oakwood.
