1940 GIBSON L-50 GUITAR - NEAR MINT!!
Estimated price for orientation: 2 399 $
Category: Acoustic Guitars
Class:
Description Brand: Gibson Dexterity: Right-Handed Exact Year: 1940 String Configuration: 6 String Model: L-50 Soundboard Style: Archtop Body Type: Hollow Country/Region of Manufacture: United States
Year: 1940 Make: GibsonModel: L-50Color: SunburstCondition: Near MintWeight on my scale: about 4.5 poundsCase: Period-Correct Lifton Hardshell This is an original 1940 Gibson L-50 Archtop Guitar in very near mint condition! I am thinning the herd in my studio, and I have another acoustic archtop that gets used more, so this one needs to go to a new home where it will get more use than it gets here (I’m feeling guilty about neglecting it…).There are several features that are unusual about this guitar, that I believe are pretty much unique to 1940:The “Gibson” logo is the war-time, silk-screened logo, as opposed to the smaller, pearl logo that was the norm for the L-50.The back of the guitar is flat, not the normal arched one.The sunburst is a lighter brown than most examples of L-50’s and on the sides is a very unusual “longitudinal” sunburst, meaning that the bands of color run parallel to the sides, instead of perpendicular to the sides. I have only seen this finish on 1940 models.Has a very big "V" neck like a typical 30's Gibson neck profile. Feels great; neck is straight and the truss-rod works perfectly and has a lot of room for adjustment.Has a very cool “firestripe” pickguard, which is gone by 1941 from my observation. Also, 1940 is early enough that this guitar is ALL SOLID WOODS WITH A PROPER CARVED SPRUCE TOP. Later models of the L-50 migrated to plywood construction. As you can see from the pictures, this guitar is crazy-clean; it looks like it’s never really been played; it just has a few dings from handling that keep it from being totally mint, brand-new condition. No cracks, no repairs, no problems, no nothing. It’s as clean and straight as you’re likely to ever see.I got this guitar locally in Anchorage, Alaska, without a case. I later got the case that I am including with it, which is period-correct, but did not come with this guitar. It is a beautiful Lifton archtop case that is a very cool brown alligator pattern on the outside and emerald-green velvet on the inside. It is probably the coolest case I have ever seen; I paid a small fortune for it and I really hate to see it go, but these two go together so well that they should stay together. The fine print:MUST RECEIVE PAYMENT WITHIN 48 HOURS OF THE AUCTION’S COMPLETION; BUYER PAYS ACTUAL SHIPPING FROM ANCHORAGE, AK VIA EITHER USPS PRIORITY OR USPS EXPRESS MAIL (BUYER’S CHOICE). Please contact me during the auction is you would like a shipping quote for both methods. I only ship via USPS because FedEx and UPS are typically at least twice the price from Alaska. I have shipped many, many guitars using USPS; I pack them VERY well and have never had any issues whatsoever.ITEM IS SOLD AS-IS; please contact me if you want any additional information, I am happy to answer questions and take specific pictures!
