Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Princeton in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Stocked with vintage RCA 6V6 power tubes and featuring a recently serviced yet nearly 100% stock circuit, this vintage Blackface Fender is a Pre-CBS example that has a tone to match its reputation! Unlike it's brother the Princeton Reverb, this non-reverb Princeton has much more clean headroom, as the lack of the reverb effect introduces less gain into the circuit, allowing the amp to be clearer and punchier, with a sound that has sparkle and chime indicative of the Blackface line and perfect for recording situations. The controls are simple and intuitive, and the bias based tremolo circuit has a nice even pulse with a wide range of available speeds.The circuit is 100% original aside from a couple newer Sprague bypass caps, with stock transformers that date to late '64. The famed blue molded Ajax tone caps are present in the preamp and are instrumental in creating the sweet, musical character of Fender's Blackface amps. The chassis stamp dates to '64, and the visible date codes on the stock CTS pots are from the 38th week of that year as well. The vintage RCA 6V6 power tubes work particularly well with Fender circuits, delivering a balanced EQ curve, tighter low end and more headroom than many other power tubes currently on the market. The preamp tubes are modern valves. The tube chart is intact and very clean, with an "NL" date stamp that translates to December of '64.The speaker is the original Oxford 10J4 with the stock wiring harness and bare metal cap on the 1/4" plug, a feature exclusive to early Pre-CBS examples. While the speaker date codes places it at the first week of '65, this Princeton is still firmly in the Pre-CBS camp and deferring to all other date codes on the amp, we've advertised it as a '64. The hardware on the amp is completely original and the faceplate is clean, with four stock witch hat knobs. The stock black tolex and silver sparkle grill are present, and while the tolex is quite clean, the grillcloth was painted black and subsequently stripped of said paint in the past, so it has a slightly darker mottled gray appearance. Both back panels are new factory-spec replacements courtesy of Mojotone.
