For sale: Mint, near unused condition Fender Japan TL-52SPL and Tweed case. These were produced as Japan only guitars and are the closest thing available to a Fender replica of Keith Richard's famous 'Micawber' Telecaster. Based on a '52 Telecaster upgraded, as per Micawber, with a modern six saddle bridge, a PAF style humbucker at the neck and Gotoh enclosed tuners. Bridge Pickup is a Fender vintage Tele Pickup. Everything is original and clean. A kinsman Tweed case is included in the auction. Unless paid for cash on collection the guitar will be shipped in a reinforced cardboard guitar carton and wrapped in bubble wrap. The TL-52SPL or TL52 'Special' is a great sounding and comfortable to play guitar. As with all Fender Japan ash-bodied electrics, the ash body is beautiful and light and having had the opportunity to a/b against a Fender USA American Vintage '52 reissue the SPL wins hands down. There are a couple of these for sale in UK guitar shops as a Fender Japan FSR (Fender Special Run). However those FSRs are an off-white blonde colour while this is a 'VNT' (Vintage Natural Tint) much better looking and close to a butterscotch blonde. The grain figuring in the ash body on this is beautiful and far more attractive in the flesh than the OWB FSRs. There is some confusion over the 'JD' prefix on the serial number regarding whether it means 'Japan Domestic' or 'Japan Deluxe', however the 15 after the JD indicates this was one of the final guitars made prior to Fender Japan ending production of guitars in 2015 so a potential collectors item. Later guitars are produced under a new agreement under FMIC. The guitar is in excellent condition, it's been imported from Japan, set-up and played for a few minutes at most. I've checked the guitar over and can find no dings, fret wear or buckle rash. The one-ply black 'blackguard' scratchplate has a couple of scratches on the surface below the humbucker. I've tried to photograph them and although difficult to see they are there if you look closely - see images of the listing. I will accept PayPal if the guitar is to be shipped via a tracked, signed for service. I will also accept cash on collection and can also hand deliver the guitar if required and potentially save on shipping costs but again this would be for a cash sale and dependent on location - I travel extensively with work and can drop it off most places in or near the M4 and M5 corridors including Wales and London.
