This is a Gibson Custom Shop Brian Ray '63 SG.  It's  #21 out of 150 that came with Brian Ray's autograph.  If you're reading this and are a serious buyer you most likely know all of the specifications and have seen all of the youtube videos.  If I were you I would have three questions:
1) How does it look?
2) How does it feel?
3) Most importantly how does it sound?1) Looks - This SG is in mint condition.  From the day I got it, it has never left my smoke free home.  I tried to find some kind of flaw in the finish to "prove" how honest I am, but I couldn't.  It has a Silver Fox finish which is a very unique finish that seems as if it would hide flaws.  If there are any flaws or buckle rash on the finish of this guitar I can't find it.  It has a bigsby installed,  but comes with a stopbar tailpiece if you'd rather. 2) Feels - The 1960's slim neck on this guitar is extremely comfortable.  Not too big, not too small.  I personally like necks on the smaller side.  My favorite neck is the one on my Fender American Standard Strat.  The neck on this SG is chunkier than my Strat, but it still feels great.  It fills the hand nicely, I guess those custom shop guys really know what they're doing!  It's extremely well balanced also.  I was afraid it would be neck heavy but it's not.  It balances well playing both sitting down and standing with a strap.3) Sounds - This is where this guitar really shines.  It has a '57 Classic in the neck and a Custombucker in the bridge.  It also has coil tapping with the use of push-push pots on the volume knobs.  With the coil taps, this guitar has eight distinctly different pickup configurations.  All eight sound completely different.  A lot of coil taps just make the pickup sound thinner or quieter,  but these actually make the humbuckers sound like single coils.  But here's where it gets good...the volume and tone pots actually change the tone dramatically on this guitar.  Turn the tone from 10 to 9, get a completely different tone.  Turn it from 5 to 4, totally different.  You get the idea.  Same with the volume.  A little turn of any knob on this guitar gives you a very very different tone.  I had this guitar setup by Kerry Cash.  He's been a luthier for 37 years and is amazing.  The setup is flawless.  The sustain must be heard to be believed. Brian Ray is an American session musician, guitarist, bassist, singer–songwriter and musical director. He is best known for his work as lead, rhythm, and bass guitarist with Paul McCartney, though he has worked with an extensive list of artists in addition to his own solo career. The Gibson Custom Brian Ray Signature ’63 SG features a Bigsby Tailpiece that allows you to switch from Stopbar to Tremolo performance, custom wound ’57 Classic and Custombucker pickups, solid mahogany body and neck, all designed, tested and approved with the artist’s input and approval.Specifications:Brand - Gibson Custom Shop
