Very early and rare wooden Louis Lot Boehm System Piccolo with antique open-hole ring mechanism. This Louis Lot piccolo is probably from around 1880-90, though Louis Lot piccolos are difficult to date. Few were made and even fewer were given serial numbers as is the case with this wooden piccolo. This is a rare collector’s instrument, though fully functional. The piccolo was recently overhauled and completely restored, including re-plating of keys. Headjoint had a crack through Louis Lot logo, but that has been securely sealed and is virtually invisible. Wood appears to be cocus, though it could be grenadilla or another rosewood. It is finished and colored in the antique “French polish” style, making it difficult - for me at least - to definitively identify the exact type of wood. See pictures. Piccolo wood and mechanism is in really nice condition. However, since it was only recently overhauled and has been played very little since that time, having it adjusted after a few months in its new location and humidity would be recommended. Tuning length (center of embouchure to end of piccolo when fully assembled) is approximately 265 mm (10.4”), and seems nominally pitched around A= 438 with headjoint pulled out a couple of millimeters. Comes in old case (probably original) and lacks key for latching. Opening bid is $1000 which is considerably less than cost of actual restoration.
