This is a fantastic player grade 1987 Steinberger GM4SA guitar with the original Steinberger gigbag. 1987 was the first year for the GM style body, and this one is dated 5/87 inside the neck pocket.Here's the deal - you can easily go pay $3795 or more for an all original model like this, or get this really great player for $1799. In 2013, this guitar was upgraded with a brand new Moses graphite neck - these necks are arguably a bit better sounding and more "woody" toned than the original series necks. This one is a perfect fit, and has the proper neck bolt inserts to fit the neck screws. The frets are 95% perfect, with low action and great feel. The Moses necks are a little bit bigger and more rounded feeling neck contour than the original necks as well, and I truly like the playability and tone of this neck better than the original neck. The neck endpiece is still the original Steinberger model.The most valuable piece on this guitar is the near mint "S" trem, quite possibly one of the finest guitar tremolo systems ever created. This has the exact same parts and functionality as the Transtrem, and comes with the original stainless steel trem arm with tensioning screw. This tremolo alone is worth nearly a grand IF you could find one for sale. It is the smoothest and easiest to control trem system I have ever used on a guitar in 30 years of playing.The body is solid maple, and features the original vintage white finish as applied by the factory in 1987, with black contrasting binding. There are a few paint chips here and there, and a little wear from 30 years of gigs. The electronics are vintage 80s era EMG - SA in the neck, SA in the middle, and an 81 humbucker at the bridge with the original EMG electronics. They sound great, and really suit the guitar - and sound much better to my ears than the Seymours they used in the cheaper GR series models. The electronics backplate is missing, but one could easily be made if you so desire, I just didn't get around to it.The original gigbag is in really good condition, the zipper works properly, and the zippered compartment is still in good condition with plenty of room for accessories.This is one of the easiest guitars to do "fly gigs" with I have ever had - it fits easily into any airline's overhead compartments, and is just a joy to travel with.This is a fantastic player, and is set up and ready to go, plus I will include 4 new sets of GHS Boomer .009 strings.If you want one of these guitars to gig with and not as a "collectible", this one is your stick! It's set up, sounding great, and just did some tour gigs last month.
