Up for sale, a 1975 Guild X-500 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in good working order. This elegant top of the line Guild archtop features a rare blonde finish and boasts a full 17" wide lower bout and Venetian cutaway for easy access to the highest frets. Hand crafted in Guild's Westerly, Rhode Island factory where the company enjoyed its greatest years, this is an elegant and detailed sounding archtop, and the classic combination of an arched Sitka spruce top and modestly figured flame maple back and sides provides a familiar tonal profile that is both warm and immediate. The HB1 humbuckers deliver a smoothness and slight midrange scoop that helps keep even the most complex chord voicings clear and sonorous. From the snappier tones of the bridge position humbucker to the full, round bloom of the neck pickup, this X-500 has a tonal range that's sure to delight. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and weighing 8lbs, we've strung this Guild with flatwound 12-52 strings and dialed in the action to be low and comfortable. The neck has a fairly slender C shaped profile that gains moderate depth and a bit of roundness in the shoulders as you move up the neck, while still staying fairly slight and fast feeling. The scale length is 24 3/4" and the nut measures 1 5/8" in width. On the bound ebony fretboard, the original pearl block inlays segmented by abalone Vs add a touch of class (inspired by the Epiphone Emperor it originally competed against on its introduction), and the stock fretwire is intact. These frets have been recently leveled and polished, with plenty of height and roundness and only light wear beneath the plain strings in the first position. The action stays low and comfortable all the way up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots and a responsive truss rod. On the headstock, the original Guild stamped Schaller tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well with clean gold plating. All of the electronics work as they should, with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup as well as a small, discreet Master Volume knob located on the cutaway adjacent to the three-way pickup selector switch. The stock hardware includes the carved and compensated floating ebony bridge, reflector cap Guild knobs, hand-engraved gold tailpiece, and beveled, stairstep Art Deco pickguard. Lastly, some of these guitars featured sound post bracing which limited the acoustic resonance of the guitar. Thankfully, this X-500 has the two parallel braces across the top and no sound post so that the instrument can resonate freely with a dynamic, snappy attack.Cosmetically, this is a very clean and well kept instrument showing moderate checking on the spruce top and maple back. The original binding is completely intact and in great shape as well, showing only a few small spots of shrinkage which have been cleanly reglued along the neck profile. The bridge has plenty of height for future adjustment, and the neck meets the body at an ideal angle. The guitar is crack-free and structurally sound, with only very faint targeted buckle rash central to the back which doesn't go through the finish, and no notable dings or nicks. The gold hardware is also very clean, with only faint wear to the plating on the pickup covers. This is a well cared for and rare blonde Guild X-500, dialed in with fresh flatwound strings and ready for stage and studio use.
The original hardshell case is included.
