Up for sale, a 1952 National Dynamic model 1125 vintage archtop electric guitar in excellent condition and in good working order. This very early 1125 was made in the USA under Valco's flagship brand "National," boasting a spruce top, maple back and sides and a 15 1/4" wide lower bout. The floating neck position humbucker has a raw, cutting and bell-like tone with plenty of fat bottom end and a dynamic, twangy snap to the higher frequencies. Acoustically, the guitar has a commanding tone with a pronounced midrange chop and great attack. It weighs only 5lbs 14oz too! Add a positively chunky "baseball bat" D shaped mahogany neck and you have a very impressive guitar. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this National is dialed in with 12-52 flatwound strings and comfortable action. The neck has the aforementioned no-nonsense substantial and chunky D shape, with big shoulders and a flatness to the center of the profile that provides the perfect place to rest your thumb. The slender "banjo" fretwire is original and in truly remarkable shape on the Brazilian rosewood fretboard. These frets have been leveled and crowned, currently showing virtually no wear and playing cleanly up the neck with action that stays nice and low in all registers. The bone nut measures 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the guitar has been fitted with a set of newer Kluson Deluxe single line strip tuners with white buttons, and these tuners work very smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The early metal "National" shield logo is present on the guitar's face, and the early X prefix serial number is intact on the back. The headstock joint has had two clean breaks in the past (one lower than the other), and both have been cleanly repaired and oversprayed with clear nitro so that the repair feels smooth on the palm. A closeup of the joint is included with this listing, and the neck is as strong as ever, with the prevailing school of thought being that the neck is actually stronger after the repair. On the body, all of the electronics are mounted to the original pickguard, with stock cupcake knobs and paper in oil tone cap. The metal bracket for the 1/4" input makes for one of the most substantial and reliable connections we've seen on a floating guard, and the original pickup is mounted to a bracket beneath the fretboard extension over the body. The pickup has strong output, with a reverse wired tone knob that adds treble as you roll it back. The original compensated floating rosewood bridge and nickel tailpiece are intact as well.Cosmetically, this guitar is in great shape, with the original brown sunburst finish that highlights the birdseye maple on the back of the guitar. There is moderate finish checking on the guitar and an assortment of small nicks and expected scuffs from the past 65 years, but no structural wear aside from the aforementioned headstock repair.A heavy duty Martin hardshell case with green crushed velvet interior is included.
