Straight from our brass (and silver) instrument repair shop, our USED horns are brought back to life...All major dents are removed, joints re-soldered (if needed), patches repaired (if necessary) and the slides reworked. Our horns may be buffed, but all are hand polished to a good shine and are in good playable condition. For the collector who is looking for an instrument; we try to keep the original parts whenever possible; if the playability is good, we feel it should be left to the buyer's discretion to replace parts as desired. We have tried to describe it as it is, and are happy to answer any questions asked. #4/2017Up for sale is a 1946 FE Olds & Son Super Tenor Trombone-made in Los Angeles California, USA. The horn has serial #187xx, all numbers match. It is made of bell bronze, yellow brass and nickel silver. There are minor pings and blemishes on the bell and some light scratching. There is also some minor pitting on the bell and slide with light pitting at the grips. The yellow tone ring is nicely stamped, as were the tone rings post WW11. The slide action is very good and the inner slides are fluted. The stockings are in very good/excellent shape and there is excellent compression. This instrument is not lacquered; therefore, this instrument may have to be polished periodically (we recommend using Weiman METAL Polish). This trombone comes with an Olds #3 mouthpiece and an original used case made by Lifton (A paper with the name of the possible original owner is still on the case). The slide bore is .485/.500 and the bell flare is 7 1/2". The Super Olds line of trombones was introduced in about 1932 and soon became legendary...a great jazz horn, but able to play ballad and concert. This horn has a good sweet tone when needed, but has tons of power with good intonation and quick response. This horn is also very close to original condition; a lot of hand polishing went into it.
