Epiphone Explorer Upgraded by BCS Guitars Owner Bill BrownThis guitar is an absolute Rock & Roll Power House! It may seem like I'm asking a lot for it, but once you play it and hear the tone, you will know it's worth a heck of a lot more! My name is Bill Brown and I am the Owner of BCS Guitars (Look us up) and this is the guitar that I used when developing the Explorer wiring kits and installation instructions. I have had this guitar in with my personal guitars ever since and I have loved it, but now I need to send it to a new home. When I decided to make a wiring kit line for Explorers I was really happy because that meant I got to buy one for the R&D part of it. I had been looking for a guitar that sounded like the Scorpions from the 1980’s for a long time, and so I decided to not stop at just putting in the wiring kit, but to keep going and try to make this guitar sound like Matthias Jabbs Explorer from the 80's. To start with, this is a Korean made Explorer, and for those in the know, Korean Epiphones are WAAAAAY better than the Chinese produced Epiphones of today. This Guitar was made at the Saein Plant in Incheon South Korea in the month of March of 2006, and is production number 867. I have made many improvements to this guitar to enhance the tone. With these enhancements, this guitar is far better than any Epiphone Explorer you could buy today.The guitar is made from Mahogany, not Korina, for a deeper, warmer tone. The fret board is Rosewood and is in great condition. There are no dings, cracks or breaks in any of the corners/points of this guitar, which is unusual for a guitar like this that is over 10 years old. There a photos of all the corners/points and on some it looks like there are some really bad scratches, but those are reflections that I could not get away from with the camera. In the photo of the upper rear corner there are some scratches that are on the guitar, but because of the flash, and reflections from the finish, they look worse than they are. The tuners are Grover 18:1 and function great. All the hardware is gold and it does show the aging of the last 11 years. The strap buttons have been replace with strap locks and the gold finish on them is beautiful (of course, because they are new). The pickups were replaced about 4 years ago and the gold finish on them is showing wear as well due to the oils from the hands of myself and other players.The pickups are Kent Armstrongs. There is a Vintage PAF in the neck and a Vintage hot rod (their version of a JB) in the bridge. These pickups sound great! Of course the pickups design is the main reason, but that big hunk of Mahogany for a body really helps, and once all the R&&D had been done for the line of Explorer kits, I opted to replace the electronics with a BCS Guitars Vintage wiring kit (the VXPK-1 Prototype). The BCS wiring has a paper in oil capacitor in it that really warms up the tone, and the rest of the high quality parts really bring out all the details in the pickups. Yes, this still has the Prototype wiring kit in it. The guitar also comes with gig bag shaped for Explorers. The only issue with the gig bag is that the zipper tabs have been broken. The zippers still function normally, but the part of the zipper that is meant to be grabbed so you can pull the zipper, has broken and there is too little left to grab it. To operate it you have to grab hold of the body of the zipper and move it. It’s not a big deal, but I feel I needed to mention it. The guitar is being sold As Is, but is guaranteed to be fully functional upon arrival, and if it is not then I will give you a full refund once the guitar is returned. The guitar will be shipped within 5 business days after the winner has paid for the item. The reason it is 5 days and not sooner is that we live in rural Missouri and our nearest FedEx is quite a distance away. I also have several health issues and I am not always capable of driving, so it may take a few days before I am able to get it shipped. This sale if for the United States only, no international sales. Shipping will be by FedEx and will be insured. The guitar will be packed very well to ensure it arrives safely.
