Being offered is a nice Mandolin by The Gibson. Sticker inside has all the good info on it including the serial # of 24167 and from what I can see from research, that would put this at 1914 era and that also has that it was the red finish and the finish on the wood is AMAZING!!. The pat dates are listed as Feb 04 March 30 06. I see a few issues which I would think could be expected and certainly not beyond repair. I do not play nor do I claim to know a lot about these but I can say the neck looks nice. There are several cracks as shown in upper left front body and about the same place on the back but now it would be on the right. Also on the back the seem is parting from just beyond the mid point. All of those could easily be fixed with some glue and clamps if even desired. not sure if the hardware is original but the running keys are outstanding with little inlay and almost a calligraphy style design. The head stock has a crack that you can get your finger nail to catch and goes all the way through near the end of gibson. It stops short of the cut design on that side of the head. Again, I think that is pretty easy fix. The more concerning is there is a small tight crack at the base of the head stock (not all the way through) and runs about 3/4 of an inch. Again not detrimental but I personally would want to reinforce and have a good luthier look and repair before taking it for a ride. Looks like the cover of the tail is missing and that tail may very well be a replacement as it is very shiny. FANTASTIC GIBSON!!! SORRY NO BUY IT NOW UNLESS IT WOULD BE A CRAZY CRAZY NUMBER OF 7K OR MORE (Yes that is crazy!!!) Otherwise we are selling as is, no reserve and we will see what all of you determine what the value is on this beauty with a few very fixable issues. The case is not marked and is dirty on the outside but is overall in good shape. |
