Up for sale a 1986 Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Crafted in the years immediately following Ernie Ball's acquisition of the Music Man company (and using pre-Ernie Ball parts), this bass features a transitional logo and and an exceedingly rare custom color Translucent Teal finish, topped off with the original clear pickguard. Featuring the classic ash and maple tone wood combination and outfitted with a single alnico magnet humbucking pickup, this bass has a bell-like upper midrange, and warm pleasing low end that translates well through the pickups. The preamp allows you to dial in plenty of treble zing, or as much warm pillowy low end as you'd need, while also allowing you to dial back the bass for a tight, cutting, well defined sound. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and weighing in at 9lbs 12oz, this bass plays well with low action and roundwound 45-105 strings. The maple neck features a medium C shaped profile with a gloss finish, slight shoulders, and ideal depth. The profile feels both substantial and fast, staying fairly consistent in depth as you move up the fretboard and fretting easily in all positions. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features the original jumbo frets which have plenty of height and life left, currently showing only faint wear on the crowns beneath the A and D strings in particular from frets 1-5. The nut measures just shy of 1 11/16" in width and the headstock includes the original "Music Man' stamped tuning machines and transitional logo.On the body, all of the electronics work as the should, with original CTS pots that date to 1985. This corresponds with the Dec. 9th, 1985 neck date, and May 12th, 1986 body date. Rounding out the date codes, the serial number stamp on the bridge still has a B prefix in the 22,000 range. This bridge was stamped in 1982, but stock didn't run out until '88! The chrome on the bridge and control plate is in great shape, with original string mutes, and the clear pickguard is original as well. The finish appears very green in person, and the faint yellowing of the clear coat has pushed the Teal color to appear almost as a transparent Sherwood Green. There is faint finish checking across the entire body, along with some small finish chips along the lower bout bass side contour and adjacent to the input jack plate. While there are a few assorted nicks and light finish scratches in the clear coat on the back of the bass, the overall condition is excellent, especially considering the rarity of the color and era of production. The neck profile is particularly clean as well.
A hardshell case is included.
