Bach Stradivarius Model 37 Professional Bb Trumpet4 7/8 Inch Bell.459 Medium Large BoreSilverplate IntactExcellent Valve actionNo dentsSerial Number 183,XXX- 1980If a top player is not playing a Bach Strad trumpet today, the overwhelming odds are that they probably played one at some time in their career. The Bach Strads have dominated the trumpet world since the 1950's. They remain the industry standard and are the trumpets by which all others are compared or evaluated. The 37 was and remains the most popular bell model that Bach offers. I ask my lead trumpet player why the Bach appeals to him and he rather smuggly says "It's the Bach sound."The Bach sound fits equally well in the jazz and the symphonic worlds, able to blend into a section or soloistically lead. It will sceam intt the highest registers with a big band but can also play stylistically in good taste. Back off and warm the air to produce a warm rich sound. This one came to me in such good shape that I got a phone call from my technician asking what he was supposed to do to it. There was a tiny flat spot on one tube which he removed so easily that he did not even charge me. The silverplate is completely intact and shiny as you can see in the pictures. Valves are fast and smooth with good compression when you pull the slides against the valves. This trumpet is 37 years old and must have had a very gentile life. There are signs that it was played but it has none of the signs of that wear that almost every used trumpet shows. There is a flaw- the handle on the case has been replaced with an aftermarket buckle handle. I will have that replaced with a more original handle before shipping. When the handle on the case is the only flaw of a 37 year old trumpet, the trumpet is special. In talking to my trumpet friend, he tells me that 1980 was a very good time for Bach trumpets. It was a time they totally dominated the industry with very little competitive pressure. Longtime experiencedcraftsmen were still making them in the Bach factory before labor issues caused turnover.Comes with the above mentioned case in otherwise excellent condition and a Bach 1 mouthpiece- this one is on the large side- auditioning several sizes is probably a good idea.New Bach 37s are now selling for more than $2800 even through the discount sites. This should be a great chance to get a truly pristine strad for a good value. Among those in the know, they will tell you that the 1980 trumpet will be a better playing horn than a new one.I will ship well packed to the lower 48 states for $35 and elsewhere for actual cost by US Postal Service. Europe and Japaqn should expect to pay about $80 for shipping - australia a bit more.No Reserve or Buy It Now on this one - Auction sets the price and High Bidder wins it!!
