Ludwig Champagne Sparkle 5.5" x 14" NICKEL Super Classic Pre Serial Snare When I had the throw-off removed "4/1961" was written on the opposite side.
Believe internal Date Stamp reads MAY 15 1961___________________Wrap has slight fade/darkening as can be seen from the photos. Bearing edges are clean & the drum is in the round. THE WRAP FOLLOWS THE SEAM INTO THE SCARF JOINT. This is a gorgeous snare despite the slight fading/darkening.All hardware has been removed, cleaned & polished with Cape Cod Clothes. Hardware shows light wear - especially on the hoops where the drum key fits to loosen / tighten tension rods. It appears prior owner used something other than a drum key to tighten rods {see 9th photo}. There is light pitting & scratches & nicks here and there. Top hoop shows more wear than bottom hoop. Lugs are in very good condition.THE GREAT THING ABOUT EARLY 60'S LUDWIG IS THAT QUALITY CONTROL WAS MUCH BETTER THAN MID-60'S ONWARD WHEN RINGO WAS THE RAGE AND PRODUCTION RAMPED GREATLY UPWARD (AND QUALITY CONTROL TOOK A BIT OF A DIVE). THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF EARLY LUDWIG QUALITY.Please ZOOM in on all the photos to see the condition.Batter side head is used REMO WEATHERKING Coated Ambassador. Reso head is used REMO WEATHERKING Ambassador.{At time of listing the snare wires were shot. I will update if I & when snare wires have been added.
