Description
Brand: Collings Country/Region of Manufacture: United States
Model: D2H Exact Year: 1990

In 1989, Bill Collings rented a 1,000-square-foot space and hired two helpers in Austin, Texas.  That same year, George Gruhn, the acclaimed collector and purveyor of vintage fretted instruments and owner of Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, asked Bill to make 24 custom “Gruhn” guitars, giving the Austin luthier national exposure.   This exposure led Bill to truly go for it as a Luthier but this time he would put his 'Name, Collings' on his own guitars and do them His way.  At this point Bill Collings had made close to 200 guitars over the last few decades and he began serial numbering his own guitars somewhere in this range.  This low 300's serial number makes this work of high craftsmanship and art a unique find.   Bill Collings made this guitar himself, as this was during the time when he had few helpers and he still had to put the heavy labor in himself.  The solid Spruce top, and solid Indian rosewood sides and backs were accurately book matched. The Indian rosewood used on this guitar has an attractive grain. The Mahogany soft V shaped neck is superb. The ebony fretboard and frets are in excellent shape. The top and binding have aged to a nice vintage tones. The original hardshell case is in excellent condtion for it's age. All latches work and original handle intact. There is a Martin Thinline pickup and an extra strap button installed. Must see and hear to appreciate. This guitar is an investment and will only increase in value as the reputation for the Collings brand spreads!  Please advise with any questions, I am happy to send additional photos as well.
