This is a brand new, authentic keyless Irish flute in D, handmade made in Ireland by Des Seery. Made of Delrin polymer with the sound of wood but without the problems of wood.  The flute is in 4 pieces including a tuning slide.I purchased this flute brand new from Seery, but found my hands are just too small to reach the holes!  I am heart broken, but will continue playing my silver flutes.  This flute has maybe 15 minutes of play time! When I selected this flute, I decided that a professional quality instrument would give me the best chance of success.  There are many cheap, junky wood flutes made in China or Pakistan, but you really get what you pay for when it comes to Irish flutes.  Desi Seery

Polymer flutes enjoy advantages not shared by their wooden counterparts.  They are physically quite robust, and will not crack or split with even very rough handling.  They require no special care or oiling.  They always play with a very consistent sound and response irregardless of temperature, humidity, weather, or the length of time they have been played that day. This is a powerful flute with a resonant, "woody" sound.  Intonation is excellent through the first two octaves and still good into the 3rd, very respectable for a keyless flute. This flute has the characteristic dry "Pratten" sound in spades, and is a very handy session flute.DuPont™ Delrin® acetal resin - Pushing the Limits: Delrin® High Performance Acetal Resin Solutions
Delrin® acetal resin bridges the gap between metals and ordinary plastics with a unique combination of creep resistance, strength, stiffness, hardness, dimensional stability, toughness, fatigue resistance, solvent and fuel resistance, abrasion resistance, low wear and low friction.
"Desi's Flutes have an excellent tone and intonation, with plenty of power and the characteristic "big" Pratten sound. The Seery Delrin® Flute is suitable for weather conditions anywhere in the world. With virtually no maintenance costs, it is easy to see why this is Dessie’s most popular Flute model. Because of the consistency of the material, it keeps its rich tone throughout the year with no surprises just before a show, no the need to worry about oiling the instrument or getting the dreaded cracks in the barrel. With professionals such as Tom Doorley of Danu and Eamonn de Barra of Slide having recorded on a Seery Delrin®flute, it is easy to see why more and more people are keen to get hold of one.Delrin acetal resin bridges the gap between metals and ordinary plastics with a unique combination of creep resistance, strength, stiffness, hardness, dimensional stability, toughness, fatigue resistance, solvent and fuel resistance, abrasion resistance, low wear and low friction. Why use an Acetal Homopolymer? Homopolymers perform significantly better than Copolymers in their toughness at extreme temperatures (2x), fatigue endurance (100x), and elongation at yield (2x). Copolymers cannot reach the mechanical properties that Homopolymers offer for demanding applications."
