Here is a very rare 1950 Epiphone Broadway Regent cutaway acoustic archtop guitar! How rare? At this moment on Felix Wiedler's truly excellent New York Epiphone registry ( ) there are only 17 (seventeen!) known surviving examples! Of currently known surviving Deluxe Regent/Cutaway: there are 22; Emperor Regent/Cutaway: there are 39; Triumph Regent/Cutaway: there are 94. This means that for the four Epiphone cutaway acoustic archtop models: the Broadway Regent is the most rare! As you can see in the many pictures, at some time in the past a misguided individual decided that the guitar in this auction should be electric. This means that there a several holes in this guitar that Epiphone did not cut. Somewhat surprisingly, this does not seem to have made any difference structurally: I have had this guitar strung with phosphor bronze 12-53 for over a decade, and the top is still right where it was when it left the factory. I have been on the fence about how to restore this guitar. Obviously, it is rare and desirable and it deserves to be whole again. However, carving a replacement top might mean changing the sound, and that is something I would not risk: acoustically, this guitar currently sounds spectacular!!! The playability is also excellent, even despite the cosmetic condition. Right now, I only know of 1 other Broadway Regent that is for sale: $3,000 at Gruhn's (). If you check that one, you will see that it has been completely refinished, which dramatically decreases it's value. Then again, the 'idiot holes' in my guitar have decreased it's value, as well!
