1950s King Super 20 Master Model Cornet
Estimated price for orientation: 575 $
Category: Cornets
Class:
Description Finish: Lacquer Country/Region of Manufacture: United States Brand: King
Up for sale is my beautiful vintage King Super 20 Cornet. I purchased this cornet from Chris Charvat of the HN White website/company about 5 years ago; I asked Chris to pick the best playing Bb instrument he had without regard to what it was, and this is the one he chose for me. All-original, with original lacquer, matching slides (stamped with the last numbers of the serial #!), matching serial numbers on the valves, etc. Has the desirable 3-prong valve guides, and these valves are a real pleasure to use--fast, good compression, and work absolutely brilliantly with UltraPure (which Chris recommends), showing their lack of wear. I've only played it ~20 times in those last 5 years; I intended for this horn to be my daughter's first horn, but she's taken up piano... :/I find this horn to be incredibly expressive, really responsive to dynamics and phrasing, with a pleasing, full vintage tone and lots of nice overtones. I truly enjoy playing it, but I'm a trumpet guy and I need to back fill a few recent trumpet purchases, so this cornet has to go. I've priced it FAR below what Chris charged me, and even farther below what he would charge today for an all-original King of this condition and vintage. Note this one has NOT been buffed & re-lacquered, so you will hear the original tone and feel the original playability.Condition-wise, it's in fantastic original condition for it's age! In-hand it's the nicest original condition King I've yet seen. As you'd expect for a ~60 year old horn, there are some imperfections, and I will do my best to list them all: one small ding in the bell near the 2nd valve, residual evidence of a bell bead repair (possibly re-soldering the ring, which pops off on some vintage HN White King's, some evidence of a crease that was massaged out in that area of the bell flair) with ~95% lacquer (except 2nd valve slide, which is only 75%), either lacquer wear or evidence of soldering on the 3rd valve slide ring retaner, some wear on the micro-tuning knob, maybe a very slight downturn in the leadpipe near the receiver; almost imperceptible but I'm picky! Case is in stunning condition, original case maker's (Rayburn) and King nameplates intact! Valves work fast and wonderfully, compression is good, horn is clean inside and out!Comes with case & horn. I also have a King gold-plated MC cornet mouthpiece from this vintage that I found to play beautifully in this horn (and I preferred to everything else I tried!) that I could supply at nominal additional charge, if you'd like.
