This is a very rare Salstrom Fender Concert Tone gold-plated banjo from the early 60's before Fender purchased Salstrom. It is similar in many ways to the Fender Concert Tone such as the walnut neck, rim and resonator, engraved heavy brass flange, gold armrest with "Concert Tone" engraved into it, and neck inlay pattern. This banjo has beautiful marquetry on the inside and outside of the resonator and rim. A clear head shows off the design on the inside of the rim. This banjo has the very rare Tubaphone tone ring in it, not the heavier cast ring that the Fenders had. The banjo sounds great and the wood and metal are in great shape too. Normal dings here and there and some gold wear on the Oettinger multi-finger style tailpiece. Comes in a new hard shell case. The banjo is made with the same top quality construction as it's Fender successor.
