Description
Up for auction is a Gold Tone SM (solid mahogany) Weissenborn Hawaiian Lap Steel Guitar.I brought this back from America some time ago, and it is one of the early models, the difference from the newer models is that the fret markers are slightly different on the early series i.e. the first fret marking on the newer models have an arrow type marking.I bought it in California with recommendations from my brother, and I was going over to see him he arranged for payment and pick up.The serial number is 2611050, which I believe is the issue number date of 2005. It comes in a recognised Gold Tone hard case, it also has a jack plug fitted but there is no pick up fitted at all. The older jack plug had taken a slight knock and it has left two small marks which you can see. The pickup was removed in the USA and so I fitted a Schertler jack plug with no pickup. The body is in excellent condition, the only issues are some very light hairline marks, and a little knock about 3mm wide about 1mm deep on the front near the sound hole. It has bone string pegs, along with new strings. Other than what I have just mentioned, the rest of the guitar is in very good condition. I spoke to the original owner, who himself is a professional musician, and he played it for me unplugged, and it sounded magnificent even with old strings on. I play a Weissenborn guitar, this one has got a beautiful tone because of it's age, and what we call "it is run in".This model is currently for sale new in Australia on Ebay for the price of £988.00. Check it out.
