Up for sale, a 1965 Silvertone model 1484 "Twin Twelve" piggyback tube amplifier in good working order. Manufactured by Danelectro in the USA and marketed through Sears via their house brand "Silvertone," the 1484 was one of the top-tier department store amps of its day, and also an amp that's found favor with todays players including Jack White and Beck. The 1484 "Twin Twelve" has an extremely smooth and rich breakup, with warm clean tones at low volumes that give way to a touch of tube overdrive at roughly half volume, and reach full tube saturation with a touch of compression anywhere beyond 7 on the dial. Both channels feature a pair of inputs (high and low) and both channels share the built-in Reverb and Tremolo effects. While the Tremolo has a nice strong pulse that gets quite thick and deep, the Reverb is infamous in its own right for its thin, trashy sound that's perfect for lo-fi and surf tunes, with a unique gain structure and chimey top end character. The tank is working within factory spec, although the effect does come on fairly quickly and can cause the signal to oscillate if cranked up too far.The circuit is very original, with stock transformers and CTS pots that date to early 65. The power tubes are a pair of Sovtek 5881s (6L6) that are properly biased and sound great .The all tube head is paired with a speaker cabinet from a slightly later Silvertone model, the "Solid State 100." This cab shares similar dimensions and the same 2x12 configuration and ceramic Fisher speakers as the earlier 1484 model cabs, and even has its stock 1/4" speaker cable. The cab has a shallower cutout in the rear for the head, so the head cannot be stored below the speakers. In terms of cosmetic condition, the cab retains its original black tolex and white sparkle grillcloth, while the gray thatched covering on the head has been lightly spraypainted black to match the cabs cosmetics. The aluminum faceplate is quite clean with original knobs and black silkscreen lettering. There is some light wear on the edges of the head and cab enclosures, but both are structurally sound and this is a great rig for gigging and studio work!
