Estate find; Pair of Vtg Slingerland Rolling Bomber Radio King Tom Toms Circa 1942-1944 W II. Hello folks, 1st off is this; These are being sold (together) and for Restoration purposes, Display purposes, and or as for Parts only, 2nd I will (Not) skimp on proper packaging (Absolutely Not) and these will be packed and shipped in (two separate boxes), 3rd I refuse to end this auction early. Now, I am not attempting to offend anybody be you a Collector, Professional Musician, Novice, etc.., I simply want this known right up front, thanks to all for understanding. I am not a musician nor a collector, however I am fortunate from time to time to run across (get lucky) in finding items such as these and offer them here and from what I have researched online from some very informative and very knowledgeable resources these "Rolling Bomber" Tom Toms are quite rare, (it would have been great if the snare and bass drum would have been at the sale however they were not), I will not go into a lot of detail on these as the (folks in the know) are very familiar with these. Both "Toms" are a (blue duco finish?) if I am correct, if not I know I will be corrected, One "Tom" with hoop measures at; 13" x 14", and 2nd "Tom" with hoop measures at; 10" x 13" and as can be seen in the photos the paint finish off over the maple wood is flaking off and by the way I will wrap each "Tom" inside of plastic (to save any paint chips), the (bottom skins) are either goat or pig skin from what I have read and do not appear to have been changed and the bottom skins are secured with (carpet tacks) from what I have read, the skin on the smaller "Tom" is fully intact, the skin on the larger "Tom" has an approx. 2" wear/tear along the bottom outside edge, and there appears to be some (water staining?) on the bottom skin of one if not both "Toms", the tops of these "Toms" have a (linen type cloth?) over the original Slingerland Radio King skin, both skins are intact, the (cloth) on one "Tom" is torn, the actual wood round shell of both "Toms" are (solid) through and through with the exception of the (smaller) "Tom" showing some separation on the outside seam and the (larger) "Tom" has a couple of (cracks) in the seam yet no separation in the seam, the (3) interior reinforcing bands inside of each "Tom" are all intact and solid and yes I did (carefully) remove the top of each "Tom" to take pics for viewing purposes and I (carefully) placed the top of each "Tom" back in the same exact place they were removed from, upper and lower wood bands of each "Tom" are 2 1/8" x 1/4", middle band of larger "Tom" is 1 5/16" x 1/4", middle band of smaller "Tom" is approx. 1 1/8" x 1/4", the (top hoops) do show signs of wear/settling from over the years and I hope they can be seen in the photos, both "Toms" have (5) I believe are Rosewood lugs, the Slingerland metal mounting bracket on the smaller "Tom" appears to have been cut off year ago as (both) mounting brackets do have surface rust on them, the (mahogany?) hoops have a yellow pearl like band around them. Folks, it was a great experience for me to find these and then to learn some great American history about them. I hope these find a loving home to be displayed for decades to come!
