Back in 1967, Klein + Hummel launched the world's first active multi-channel studio monitor, the OY. It was the first studio monitor with an active crossover, a hybrid three-way design with two internal amplifier channels. Very advanced for it’s time, and production continued for the next 20 years, until 1987!  The OY is equipped with two built in 30 watt amplifiers, which permit highest quality monitoring without the need for separate power amplifiers. As a result of its small size, it can be mounted in a most favorable position in control rooms, mix-down areas, editing rooms, etc.  The OY monitors achieve excellent low frequency reproduction despite their small size. The  stringent requirements, with respect to frequency response and distortion, which studio monitors pose, are completely fulfilled by the OY. Active speakers may have greater , less  distortion (IMD), higher , and greater output  level (SPL) with fewer blown .  The OY was one of the best monitors in 1970's, and still sounds fantastic! Very clean, clear, accurate reproduction. In fact, these are some of the best speakers I’ve ever heard, and I would love love love to keep them and use them, but with the built in amplifiers, you need a pre-amp, and I no longer have that. I used to have them hooked up with a McIntosh pre-amp, and, boy, was that sweet! A really great system! But I sold the Macs (I had 2 different ones), and now have a completely new system, and the K+H’s just don’t fit with it. Plus, they need some repairs, so, with a heavy heart, they’re on the block. But they sound so good!  The grills are thin metal, almost mesh-like, but stronger, and the cabinets are a thin layer of wood or pressed wood, about a quarter inch wide, sandwiched in between some sort of polymer or something that holds it all together, and keeps it strong, even in such a narrow design. Or maybe it’s just paint! I can’t tell, but it doesn’t look like paint, or wood. Kinda space age looking, especially for the 60’s!  I mentioned that they need some work. I have not had them hooked up since I sold my Mac pre-amps, but the last time I had them connected, one of the speakers wasn’t working. Now, a simple thing like dust in the controls can stop these guys from working, in that, if dust gets into the treble level control, the treble driver will stop producing sound. I’m not saying that’s the problem. I don’t know what it is. Jes’ sayin’.  They have some cosmetic issues, like stains, scratches, and little chips on the cabinets, but structurally, they’re in fine shape. They are heavy, about 35 pounds each, so shipping will be expensive. They may have to be shipped in 2 separate cartons. Either way, shipping with Fedex looks to be about the cheapest option, and it ain’t cheap! Shipping is going to be $150, whether it goes in 1 carton or 2! I know, I know. It’s a lot, but UPS and the Post Office would be even higher. Way higher! So, we’ll stick with Fedex, and it might even be more than $150, but I’ll cover any difference. Shipping weight’s gonna be almost a hundred pounds!  So, yeah, you’ll have to put some time and/or money into getting these babies back up to snuff, but once you do, you will have one fine set of speakers! K+H make nothing but the highest quality gear! Check out what some of their stuff goes for. Unreal!Speakers will come with all necessary connective cables.  Below is tech data, for those of you who read that kind of stuff.
