Up for sale, a 1986 Fender Esquire Custom '62 reissue electric guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Very rare and crafted by Fender Japan at the famed Fujigen factory, this Esquire Custom was produced for only a couple short years in the mid '80s. Loaded with a USA-made flat pole piece upgraded pickup, there's plenty of twang, sparkle, and authoritative rhythmic power present with this guitar, and the three-way tone switch makes it a surprisingly versatile instrument too. This Esquire weighs in at 7lbs 8oz and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings and low, slinky action. The neck has a medium C shaped profile with a smooth ambered gloss finish that feels great on the palm. The generous thick slab rosewood fretboard has a 7 1/4" radius and original vintage-style fretwire that is in great shape. These frets show only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4, with virtually no wear further up the board. The guitar plays well in all positions with no buzzing or dead spots and the truss rod is responsive in both directions. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width. On the headstock, the original Kluson-style tuners turn smoothly and the Esquire decal is present. The heel of the neck is pencil dated 4/18/86, and all of the proper Fender Japan markings are present in the pocket, along with the small "Made in Japan" text directly above the neck plate. This early plate is also original with bold "Fender" font embossed across the top.All of the electronics work as they should, with the upgraded bridge position single coil delivering a richer, more dynamic and full sound than one would expect from the stock pickup. The original Fender Japan pots and switch are still present. The chrome on the control plate is in great shape with stock knurled knobs, while the bridge plate is a modern Fender "Pat. Pending" reissue with aluminum saddles. While the pickup has no identifying markings, it does have the proper brass baseplate, black fiber bobbin, cloth covered wire, and flat alnico pole pieces indicative of an early '50s Tele style design. The pickup measures at 8.79k ohms.Cosmetically, this is a very clean and well cared for instrument with the fairly saturated three-tone sunburst finish accented by cream binding on both the top and back of the guitar. There is light, targeted buckle rash on the back just south of the neck plate, as well as a few small scattered nicks and faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the guitar as a whole. As the photos show, this guitar is well kept with a vibrant finish and clean hardware.Easily one of the rarest guitars produced by Fender Japan, this Esquire model hasn't been available for decades and is a testament to the eye for detail and incredible quality of the Fujigen factory.A well padded Fender Japan gigbag is included.
