Description
Brand: Kay

Custom made Kay from the 1950's with a solid spruce top.  The back and sides are laminates.  I replaced the old brass frets with medium sized nickel ones - crowned and smoothed the ends and now it plays great up and down the fingerboard with no buzz or flat notes - got the action down to just below 1/8" at the 12th fret for both bass and treble sides.  There is a screw in the neckjoint behind the boot cap, but it can easily be removed if it ever needs a reset.  --  There's also another screw under the 15th fret marker in lieu of a truss rod.  It's not perfect, but it is a very well made Chicago blues player with a big sound - as loud as any acoustic I've ever played with rich, full overtones that just ring on and on - a unique and rare instrument.   Nut      -      1 11/16"
