You are bidding on a 1954 Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone in silver plate. This Saxophone has new pads, corks, and felts and is gig ready. If you are looking at this sax, you already know what it is and what its worth. I will do my best to explain all aspects of this instrument in detail. I have a full time job, so please only ask questions if you are a serious potential buyer and I will try to get back to you as quickly as possible. The positives This is a first year, (1954) selmer mark VI alto sax. This sax is a players sax. Meaning it played and was played and was not one people didn't like ALL of the serial numbered parts match. Neck, Body, and Bell numbers are the same All pads, corks, and felts have been replaced and it is gig ready All springs have been replaced (blue steel) The overall condition and look of the instrument is extremely good for the age Sax comes with SKB contoured hard shell case The potential issues. I do not believe that the silver is the original finish or at least it has been touched up or re-silvered at some point. You can see wear that has been silver plated over. the bell engraving is still clear, but the "MARK VI" on the upper body is rather faint. The key pearls are a bit worn. Again, this wasn't a display instrument, it was a played and the pearls show some wear. Plenty good enough to play, but it you want to feel perfectly smooth uniform pearls, they will need to be replaced. There are no major or significant dents or body issues but I'm sure it has had repair work over the years, but the body condition is excellent. The left side clothes guard is not original. Just to clarify, this is not a museum piece and we are not selling it as such. this is a 1954 mark vi that has been played and will continue to play for many years to come. Why spend thousands more for a reference 54 when you can have the real thing!
