Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a rare early Aiwa microphone from the late 1950's or early 1960's when Aiwa first became a company that got into selling microphones. This is the VM-13 "Velocity" ribbon microphone that resembles the iconic RCA 77 microphone from a few years earlier. This is not the cheaper crystal or dynamic microphone that you see all over Ebay. This VM-13 model is actually quite small one would probably not even realize it's the real deal upon quick inspection. As you can see the mic itself has the original almond colored paint scheme and isn't very flashy in the looks department but all of the components are original including the screens and yoke. Only the original cable was replaced as it was probably in very poor condition as many of them are from that era. The mic overall is in very nice condition. The paint is very nice as are the front and rear screens. Even the original silk liner on the inside is in fantastic shape. The Aiwa insignia and badge shows just a minimum of wear. The thumb screws tighten just as they should and the mic can be adjusted to just about any angle. The real beauty of the mic is the sound quality. The mic is Low Z and has a beautiful warm tone to it. The signal strength is quite strong and this mic is Bi-directional. This is a professional studio mic without a doubt and on par with most ribbon mics I have heard. This is one of Awia's proud achievements from their early years. The cable is appx 4 feet in length. It's soft, pliable and has the standard male XLR end connector. The yoke has an RCA style adapter so it can be mounted on any standard 5/8 X 27 thread stand which is basically 99% of the stands out there new and old but i'm including a period Atlas DS-7 desk stand with this mic. STAND SHOWN IS INCLUDED IN SALE... The stand is an older Atlas desk stand from the 1950's era and perfect for just about any older vintage microphone. The design shows that it's clearly an early generation DS-7 retractable desk stand made in Brooklyn, NY. There is no discoloration on the grey paint and there is very lite rust stains on the bottom. Total length is 12 inches high x 6 inches wide but can be lowered to 8 inches if needed? With the VM-13 on top it's 16 inches high at it's lowest setting and 20 inches with the stand fully extended.
