The Les Paul Model of 1952 to 1956 with fat single-coil P-90 pickups has long been a favorite of plenty of rock'n'rollers, bluesers and garage rockers. As legendary as those guitars are, though, they have certain limitations that are inherent to the breed. Their fatter rounded-D neck profiles don't suit everyone, and as great as a smokin' P-90 can sound, they are sometime considered a "one-sound" pickup. Also, while the traditional Goldtop finish might be undeniably hip, a different look is always welcome. Enter the Les Paul Traditional Pro with Tapped P-90s from Gibson USA, exclusive to Guitar Center. Derived from the P-90 equipped Les Paul Model of 1956 with Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, this outstanding new design represents a new combination of features that offers players a choice of the two most popular neck profiles of all time—a comfortably rounded '50s "D" neck or a fast slimmer '60s neck—with a Goldtop finish on the former and a sleek Ebony Black on the latter. To top it off, each version has the versatility of Gibson USA's new tapped P-90 pickups, all with a few twists that make it perfect for today's demanding player. The Les Paul Traditional Pro with Tapped P-90s is crafted with all the classic ingredients that helped to make this model a legend in the first place. A carved maple top contributes clarity and sustain, while a modern weight relievied mahogany body adds depth and richness. A solid quarter-sawn one-piece mahogany neck is glued in with a traditional mortis & tenon joint, and carved to your choice of Gibson USA's popular '60s-style SlimTaper™ profile on the Ebony Black model, or the traditional rounded '50s profile on the Goldtop. Both are topped with a rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets, with a 12" radius for each choke-free bending, the neck culminates in a headstock with the preferred 17-degree backward pitch for improved string pressure in the PLEK-cut Corian nut. Beyond the look and feel of this great new member of the Les Paul family, a pair of Gibson USA's new Tapped P-90 pickups take the Les Paul Traditional Pro with Tapped P-90s right over the top. A "coil tap" feature usually refers to splitting a humbucking pickup, but in the truer sense of the term these new single-coil units are wound with a "tap wire" that eliminates a portion of the coil, to access a second sound from each pickup. In full mode each pickup sounds like a traditional thick, snarly Alnico V P-90 in its position (approximately 7.0k ohm in the neck position and 8.6k ohm in the bridge), but lift the push-pull switch on each pickup's volume control, and resistance levels drop to 5.0k ohm and 6.0k ohm respectively, for a brighter, sharper single-coil sound that is still rich and authentic, and not as thin as other pickups that are split entirely in half. A great new feature, this pickup makes its debut on the Les Paul Traditional Pro with Tapped P-90s, exclusive from Guitar Center. And for all this versatility, this great new model retains classic appointments such as acrylic trapezoid fingerboard inlays, a mother-of-pearl Gibson headstock logo and silkscreened gold "Les Paul Model", cream binding and pickguard, and vintage amber Top-Hat knobs. Check out the Les Paul Traditional Pro With Tapped P-90s today from Guitar Center, and grab that classic Les Paul tone with some great new twists.
