SEE FULL DESCRIPTION BELOW FOR MORE IMPORTANT PICS OF THIS BASS AND ITS CONDITIONThis bass for sale is a bass I put together from a vintage 1970s fretless one-peice maple neck, paired with a brand new 1970s reissue Fender Precision bass sunburst body, with Fender pickups, pots, knobs, wiring, and pick guard. The body was made in Japan, but it is very good quality and sounds amazing.I own several fretless Fender P basses with the one-piece maple neck from the 70s and I just love everything about them - they way the sound and the way they look. But all original basses like these are rare and typically $2000+ at the lowest worst condition range and get into the several thousand dollar range depending on condition and originality. The necks alone are also very rare and expensive and not often found by themselves. I built this project with the goal of saving a vintage neck and giving it new life for someone who wants to experience that piece of history, in a more affordable bass that is gorgeous and sounds amazing.Rarely do you see a fretless maple fingerboard on fretless basses today, but they are beautiful. This neck is from the 1970’s and is a bit beat up, but not bad considering it is 40 years old. It has some dings, scratches, chips, and dents, but NONE of them affect the playing. I play fretless bass quite a bit and am a stickler for a neck that does not have buzzes or dead spots. I set this bass up myself and it sounds amazing. I have it strung with brand new Ernie Ball flat wounds to protect the neck - these are my favorite flat wounds. But you can easily put on your favorite round wound strings to get more fretless “growl” and “mwah”.The neck had to be re-drilled to fit the new body. In its original state when I got it the drill holes were oddly placed and crooked. So I am not sure what its history was, but I filled the old holes with wooden dowels and wood glue, and was very careful to do it right. I then drilled new holes for the new body, and the neck fits perfect. I then added genuine Fender Nate Mendel Road Worn 70s P Bass tuners and tuning pegs in Relic Chrome, and a genuine fender “F” neck plate. The body has a few very minor scratches and scuff marks, but overall is almost flawless. The neck has some typical round wound string “scratching” throughout the fingerboard, but it only noticeable by sight in certain specific lighting conditions, and does not affect the playing at all. There are several dings and scratches along the fingerboard, but none affect the playing. There are also dings and wear along the edges and some on the back, again that do not affect the playing. In my opinion these imperfections show that this neck had an interesting 40 year life so far. I am very excited to be giving it new life and hope the new owner will enjoy it for many years to come, and even add some more scars! It comes in a like-new fender hard case, not vintage, in black with nice black plush lining and key lock. Very nice, very sturdy, this will protect this new bass for years to come. These cases alone go for nearly $150. It has some scuffs and scratches as if its been put in a rack or rubbed up against other cases, but perfect condition otherwise.PLEASE LOOK CLOSELY AT ALL PICS AND ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE BUYING - SOLD AS IS - THANK YOU.- Fender one piece maple neck from around 1976 - date number stamp is too faded to read. But it does have the inspection stamp “F/R/R” and a name that can’t be read, and the number “4568”. The headstock serial number is “76 50916”.
