This vintage Vega Long Neck Open Back Pete Seeger model banjo  is the "holy grail" of  vintage professional open back long neck "Folk" banjos.  It has been seldom played in its life and shows like when it was initially purchased new in 1965.  I am the 3rd owner and have had it in my ownership for the past 15 years.  In the attached pictures, I have included the original 1965 receipt of purchase.  The gentlemen who originally purchased it evidently seldom played it, and it was willed to his Son when he passed away.  I purchased it from his Son shortly after he took possession, as his Son was not a banjo player and desired to sell it rather than play it.  There is not sign of wear or any distress on any part of this banjo.  It is in absolutely in impeccable condition and is truly a mint condition museum piece.  The Pete Seeger Long Neck 5 String was further made popular by Dave Guard of the Kingston Trio folk group initially formed in the late 1950's.  I am not a pro banjo player, and realizing the amazing condition of this banjo when I purchased it, respected it as so, and seldom played it, except for special occasions when I brought it out.  .  I suspect that the original owner was not a professional musician, so it was not played much at all and stored away most of its life.  You will not find a nicer original example of this model banjo.  There is absolutely no fret wear nor loss of original finish on the back of the neck.
The very first Vega Pete Seeger models had the wooden neck extension through the banjo pot assembly.  This design was then updated to a double steel adjustable rod arrangement that allowed a precise adjustment of string to fret distance or playing "action" on the banjo.  This banjo is of the steel rod construction design.   It has the Vega factory installed optional Scuggs tuners with original paperwork/instructions for this option.  The original VEGA case is in mint condition with no signs of wear or distress either inside or out.  It has never been restored.   This legendary banjo is an instrument that a professional musician will cherish and admire for its originality, playability, collectibility  and its outstanding condition.
Deering Banjo years ago bought the Vega Instrument Company.  Deering is now offering a brand new "reproduction" Vega Pete Seeger Long Neck 5 String model  that is supposedly identical to the original model and it lists for $5,195.00.
