Our Sontronics CHIMERA (not currently in production) was launched in 2008 and represented a new step into the world of outboard equipment as our first preamplifier. The single-channel desktop preamp/DI box had two discrete, parallel circuits – one solid-state and one valve/tube – which could be selected via a switch on the front panel.With over 60dB of distortion-free headroom, anything from a delicate whisper to pure thunder can be reproduced. And at the flick of a switch you can choose between the lightning-quick transient character of the solid-state amplifier circuit and the naturally compressed tones served up by the hand-selected Electro-Harmonix® ECC82 vacuum tube.Further fine adjustments can be made using the six-step high-pass filter, the -20dB attenuation switch and the phase controls, enabling you to create a kaleidoscope of sonic colourations."Sontronics CHIMERA and SONORA are the best preamps I've ever used on guitar… and from now
on, they're the only ones I'm going to be using!"
AL DI MEOLA, Jazz fusion guitaristThanks to its near-linear frequency response and ultra-low self noise, CHIMERA offers the classic vintage tone and engineering quality you'd find in a premium-branded preamp, but at a fraction of the price. The transformer-balanced inputs ensure that your signal reaches your recording or PA system with perfect integrity, but CHIMERA will also happily re-amplify signals such as the output from a guitar amp or keyboard amp. Sontronics CHIMERA was supplied with its dedicated power supply unit plus connecting cable and power lead as well as a detailed instruction manual telling you how to get the best out of your preamp. Although CHIMERA is no longer in production, you can hear the same crystal-clear solid-state technology in our beautiful dual-channel preamp/DI which is 100% designed, developed and made here in the UK. Please note that Sontronics CHIMERA is not currently in production but we know that it is sometimes available on the second-hand market. If you see one, grab it because we know how rare it is to find one out there! (There were less than 100 made.)
