Description
Up for Auction:1940 Martin 0-17 GuitarMahoganySerial #: 76604I'm selling this, along with other stringed instruments, for a friend of mine (see my other auctions). He shared the following:Nooo! Nooo! When your kid goes to college it hurts in so many, many ways. Is there a way worse than to have to sell your mahogany 0-17,# 76604 Pre-war Martin? No. I told my son it’s best he stays away from me this week as my neighbor sells my pre-war Martin. I bought this from a guitar shop in Tennessee years and years ago. I didn’t want to buy it but I had cash in my pocket and played it and I fell in love. I am still in love with it’s sweet, mahogany sound. On the back it has a sticker from a now defunct Honolulu guitar shop. Probably some GI bought it right around the time of Pearl Harbor. This one is something special and I’m putting a high starting bid on it so if it doesn’t sell I have an excuse to keep it. On that note, it needs some repairs. The bone tuner heads are original; one cracked and disintegrated the others are not far behind. It has scratches. The bridge has seen some work…and it has some cackles in the lacquer. I hope who ever buys this gets to enjoy it. I played it a lot and I know it was built during the golden era of guitars and these things are relics but they’re meant to be played in my humble opinion.I'll let the pics and description above paint an image for you.The 2016 Official Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide has this to say:O-17 1929-1948 Second version ('29 and on) is all mahogany, 3 white-black-white soundhole rings, thin black backstripe, solid peghead and 14 frets, natural mahogany1940-1944Low condition: $2400High condition: $3100The case is in FAIR condition with several scratches, dings and scuff marks. NO key for the lock. The interior is in good condition.Look over the listing carefully, I'll answer any questions the best I can. I can send more pics if needed. Guitar is being offered AS-IS...No Returns. Thanks for looking.
